Eurocontrol, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, reports that an unwanted contact between planes and ground vehicles or people occurs every 8 hours on average. Traffic “felons” are thus identified and can, by means of appropriate measures such as training courses, be made better qualified for the job.
The complete monitoring of the taxiways and the general area around it usually ensures that a plane, which has landed using an instrument landing system, arrives safely at its intended parking space. This means that the airport does not have to be closed if visibility is impaired. Large financial losses on the part of airport operators and carriers as well as their associate companies and service providers can be kept to a minimum or completely avoided.
